Lucknow: A district court in Barabanki has sentenced three siblings to life imprisonment in a 24-year-old murder case in which a woman was shot dead after her daughter rejected a marriage proposal.Additional district judge Vinay Arya also imposed a fine of Rs 28,000 each on the convicts — Chand Miyan, his brother Guddu, and sister Atan, all residents of Fatehpur town.According to govt counsel Rakesh Tiwari, Chand Miyan wanted to marry the daughter of the deceased woman. However, the proposal was turned down, and the woman’s family subsequently fixed her marriage with a man from a neighbouring district.After learning about the engagement, Chand Miyan went to the woman’s house on Aug 28, 2002, along with his parents, brother and sister. The family confronted the woman and pressured her over the marriage proposal.During the confrontation, the woman’s mother was shot dead by the accused.A case was registered on the complaint of the woman’s daughter, and the trial continued for nearly 24 years. During the course of the proceedings, the parents of the three accused died.
