Hyderabad: Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths arrested a superintending engineer from the Kukatpally zone of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) after he demanded and accepted Rs 15 lakh from the complainant through his subordinate in exchange for clearing the bills.According to ACB officials, the prime accused, P Chinna Reddy, was approached by a civil contractor seeking to clear arrears of over Rs 1.4 crore for cleaning a lake.
“Chinna Reddy was supposed to verify the works executed by the complainant. In exchange for processing and forwarding the complainant’s bill, amounting to Rs 1.4 crore, to the zonal commissioner for approval, the accused demanded a bribe,” the ACB officials said.According to officials, Chinna Reddy had demanded a bribe of Rs 30 lakh and had accepted an instalment of Rs 15 lakh through an outsourced computer operator, B Praveen Kumar. “The two accused have been arrested and will be produced before the Special Judge for SPE & ACB cases,” the investigators said.The accused have been charged with violating the Prevention of Corruption Act.
