Mumbai: Sahar Police arrested Toufique Shaikh, 39, the second accused in a case in which a US woman was allegedly duped of 200 US dollar (Rs 18,000) for a 400-metre taxi ride to a hotel on Jan 12. Police said Shaikh aided cab driver Deshraj Yadav, who was arrested earlier.Shaikh was caught on Wednesday on his return to Mumbai after fleeing to Uttar Pradesh. Police said his arrest revealed he had committed three similar offences in the past — two at Sahar Police Station and one at the Airport Police Station, and that in each case, his accomplice was different. Shaikh is in police custody until Feb 6. Yadav is currently in judicial custody.Earlier, police arrested 50-year-old cab driver Yadav for allegedly fleecing a US national woman of 200 US dollar (Rs 18,000) for a 400-metre drive to a hotel, after tracking him using an investigation OSINT tool (an investigation platform for Unmatched Accuracy & Real-time Data). Sahar Police traced the accused using an OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) investigation tool known for providing real-time data and accuracy. Yadav was arrested on Jan 28.During questioning, Yadav confessed that he, along with his accomplice Shaikh, first took the woman to a wrong hotel after riding for 20-minute before leaving her to her original destination. Police said they were searching for Shaikh, who hails from Kurla locality and was described as Yadav’s partner in the crime.Police said both accused are residents of Sahar Village and work as taxi drivers.Police said they were trying to convince the US woman to file a written complaint via mail or video call so that the case will stand in the court during trail.
