Lucknow: Water birth and labour analgesia were trending in painless delivery and dignified maternity care, said experts during a continuing medical education programme on ‘Newer Trends in Labour Management’, at KGMU’s department of obstetrics and gynaecology.Aimed to update clinicians and postgraduate students on evidence-based childbirth practices, over 150 doctors, faculty members, senior residents and postgraduate students attended the CM, under guidance of Prof Rekha Sachan, patron and acting head of the department.
Speakers discussed various aspects of labour analgesia and pain management during childbirth, followed by interaction with participants. “Labour analgesia allows women to experience childbirth with significantly reduced pain while remaining active and aware during labour. It is an important step towards respectful and humane maternity care,” said Prof Sachan, adding, “Water birth is practised in Europe and other Western countries and is now being adopted in several hospitals in India,” she said.
