On checking the vehicles, police recovered 320.72kg of 2-bromo 4-methyl propiophenone, a precursor chemical commonly used to manufacture narcotic drugs such as MD. The chemical was concealed in six plastic drums hidden behind household items in the pickup. Three persons found transporting the consignment—Deepak, Jitendra Singh and Shelendra Vilala, all residents of Agar district in Madhya Pradesh—were detained on the spot. During preliminary questioning, they told police the chemical was transported from Maharashtra to Kota and was being taken to Agar for delivery. Police later coordinated with Agar police and detained Jaynarayan alias Mamu and his associate Ramlal, who were allegedly waiting to receive the consignment. During interrogation, Jaynarayan allegedly disclosed that the chemical was meant to be supplied further to an associate in Rajgarh district. Subsequent raids, conducted with the assistance of Rajgarh police, led to the detection of a suspected MD manufacturing unit, where equipment and chemicals were recovered, police said. A case was registered at Jhalrapatan police station under Section 30 of the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the chemical and identify other members of the network.
