Hyderabad: The ruling Congress saw 12 of its 14 candidates being elected unanimously in the municipal elections.According to details shared by the Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC), the remaining two posts were won by candidates from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Among the candidates elected unanimously, four filed their nominations from municipalities in Suryapet district, two each from Vikarabad and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and one each from Jogulamba Gadwal, Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Medak and Peddapalli districts.“We did not receive any complaints of coercion or any other foul play,” an official from the state election commission said, adding that in the previous municipal elections, even fewer candidates had been elected unanimously.This year, a total of 12,944 candidates are contesting the municipal elections, scheduled to be held on February 11.Of these, as many as 757 candidates have postgraduate degrees, while 7,985 candidates possess undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate qualifications.In terms of profession, 4,054 candidates are housewives, 2,532 are engaged in business, 2,816 listed their profession as ‘others’, 460 are private employees, 87 are students and 56 are retired employees, among others.A total of 2,948 candidates from the Congress, 2,878 from the BRS and 2,634 from the BJP will be contesting the municipal elections, along with candidates from other parties and independents.
