Berhampur: Police on Wednesday arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a forest area in Kandhamal district on Sunday. With this, two accused have been taken into custody in the case.Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Subham Bhosale, said a 19-year-old co-accused was arrested on Tuesday, while the second accused was nabbed on Wednesday.
Police said the girl was abducted on Sunday when she was going to a local pond. The accused allegedly forced her onto a two-wheeler by covering her mouth and took her to a nearby forest, where she was assaulted, physically abused and threatened. She was allegedly confined till late night before being released.The girl spent the night in the forest and returned home the next morning, where she narrated her ordeal to her family. Based on the complaint, police registered a case on Monday under relevant sections of the Pocso Act and BNS.The SDPO said all mandatory legal procedures, including medical examination of the survivor and the accused and recording of statements, are being followed. “We are making efforts to file the charge-sheet at the earliest,” he said.
