Jaipur: Former minister and Congress functionary Shanti Dhariwal courted fresh controversy Tuesday over the use of foul language on the floor of the House.Participating in a discussion on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address, Dhariwal warned that if large numbers of youth were not made employable through skill training, the growing young population would become a serious challenge for the existing govt.Responding to his remarks, govt chief whip Jogeshwar Garg, without naming Rahul Gandhi directly, taunted that everyone in the country found employment except one ‘young man’. Dhariwal retorted, “I can understand only half of what you are saying,” and, during the exchange, used an abusive word. After he concluded, Garg said Dhariwal was a habitual offender and demanded that his comments be expunged. This is not the first time Dhariwal’s has waded into a controversy over the use of objectionable language. Most recently, his remarks on crime in Rajasthan during a debate in 2024 in the presence of students had stirred a controversy. Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the House also turned heated after BJP MLA Gopal Sharma alleged that two ministers from the former Cong-led govt should be sent to jail in connection with paper leak cases, attributing the statement to a senior police officer. Sharma also alleged that corruption and paper leaks became routine during the Congress regime.
