Kanpur: Two people died during treatment and two others were injured after a car hit a motorcycle before falling into a canal in Kotra police station area of Jalaun district on Wednesday. Police identified the deceased as Jitendra Singh (50) and his relative Indrapal Singh (70), residents of Pachipura village. Both were returning home when their car collided with a motorcycle on the road. The couple on the bike got injured seriously.Police said the two men in the car sped away, but barely 2 kms from the accident site, their car fell into a canal. Kotra police station in charge Vimlesh Kumar reached the spot with a police team and rescue work began. The car was pulled out with the help of a JCB.The Singh duo had gone to Kotra on Wednesday at 4 am to buy medicines and were returning home when, around 11:30 am, their car collided with a motorcycle at Karthara turn on the Kotra-Ait road. Riyaz Mirza from Ganeshganj was riding the bike with his wife as pillion.
After the collision, Riyaz and his wife were injured seriously. Police said Jitendra, who was driving, panicked on seeing a crowd gathering and raised the car’s speed. On reaching Binaura canal bridge, the car went out of his control and fell into the canal.After the accident, locals informed the police. The car was pulled out with the help of a JCB machine, and the two seriously injured men were sent to Orai Medical College by ambulance, where doctors declared them dead. Police sent both bodies for post mortem.Indrapal Singh was trustee of the Lal Kothi Ashram branch, while Jitendra Singh Gurjar was engaged in farming. Riyaz Mirza said he was going on a bike with his wife to attend a wedding when a speeding car hit them from behind. Police took both bodies into custody and sent them for post mortem, while statements of eyewitnesses were being recorded, said the police station in charge.
