Gurgaon: Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) has announced that from next year, students will not have to travel long distances to appear for Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. Examination centres will now be set up within villages that have 100 or more candidates and in those with fewer candidates, centres will be established as close as possible. BSEH chairperson Pawan Kumar Sharma said the initiative aims to reduce the burden of commuting, particularly in rural areas where transport facilities are limited. “The board wants students to concentrate on their studies without worrying about long and tiring journeys. For the 2026 annual examination session, more than 5.2 lakh students are expected to appear, an increase of around 56,468 candidates compared to the previous year,” he said.As per the schedule finalised by the board, Class 12 examinations will be held from Feb 25 to April 1, 2026. Class 10 examinations will take place from Feb 26 to March 20, 2026. To strengthen examination security and prevent unfair practices, the board will introduce QR codes on question papers for the first time. Additional monitoring measures will also be implemented. Officials said that invigilators will not be appointed from private schools and will not be posted at centres located in their own residential areas to ensure transparency.“At present, the board operates around 1,480 examination centres across Haryana. Applications from schools for setting up new centres under the revised policy are being processed. Villages such as Sampla and Gatoli in Jind district are among those under consideration. The final list of examination centres will be announced well before the exams to ensure timely arrangements and avoid inconvenience to students,” Sharma said.
