Kanpur: A 20-year-old welding worker allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself at his home in Khyora police station area of Nawabganj on Wednesday.The deceased has been identified as Abhishek. His elder brother Deepak found his body when he returned home from work around 1pm and immediately informed the police. Abhishek was rushed to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was sent for post-mortem examination. On receiving information, senior police officials, including ADCP Central Archana Singh, ACP Colonelganj Amit Chaurasiya and Nawabganj police, reached the spot and inspected the scene.
During investigation, police recovered a .315 bore pistol, a cartridge and other evidence from the room. A bullet mark was found on the wall, and police said the bullet appeared to have passed through the victim’s head before hitting the wall.According to family members, Abhishek lived with his father Ramavatar Nishad, a loader driver, brother Deepak and sister-in-law at their Khyora residence. His mother has been staying in Fatehpur village for the past year to look after agricultural fields. Abhishek and Deepak worked as welding labourers.On Wednesday morning, Ramavatar and Deepak left for work, while Abhishek stayed at home. Family members said Deepak called Abhishek around 11am and asked him to come to the shop, but he declined, saying he had some work. When Deepak returned around 1pm, he found Abhishek’s room locked from inside. After breaking open the door, he found Abhishek lying on the bed in a pool of blood. Police questioned family, but no clear reason for the suicide could be ascertained. When asked about the pistol, the deceased father denied any knowledge of it.ACP Colonelganj said the deceased’s mobile phone has been seized and is being examined as part of the investigation.
