Chennai: An 80-year-old woman was killed in a road accident while on her way to a hospital to see the body of her son, who died due to an ailment, near Melmaruvathur on Monday night.Earlier, her son Mani (52), had died at a private hospital in Melmaruvathur following a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital after he complained of discomfort and chest pain. He died without responding to treatment.
Upon hearing the news, Mani’s mother, Alamelu, and relatives rushed to the hospital. As Alamelu attempted to cross the Chennai–Trichy national highway, a speeding vehicle struck her and she suffered fatal injuries. Her body was sent to the govt Hospital in Madurantakam for postmortem.Melmaruvathur police registered a case and are investigating the incident.
