Pune: The Kalewadi police on Monday arrested an accused from a gang of thieves involved in stealing four-wheelers and selling their parts to a scrap dealer.The police detected three cases and recovered a four-wheeler and scrapped parts, collectively worth Rs3.5 lakh, from the accused. A Kalewadi police team led by senior police inspector Rajendra Bahirat made the arrest.While investigating the vehicle theft cases, the police got a tip-off that a suspect involved in a vehicle theft case was heading towards Mumbai via Pune-Mumbai highway. The police team chased the suspect and took him into custody. He was identified as Shiva Yadav (20) of Chikhali.“During the sustained questioning, Yadav admitted to stealing a multi-utility vehicle from the Kalewadi area on Jan 29. Yadav also revealed that he took the stolen vehicle to a scrap godown in Moi village in Khed taluka and dismantled it,” the officer said.He said the police team then went to the scrap dealer and recovered one more stolen pickup truck and spare parts of two stolen vehicles. “We are searching for the accomplices of the accused. Our investigations are on,” he said.
