Vadodara: The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Panchmahal police seized two stolen double-barrel shotguns and six air guns, along with cartridges and pellets, from a house and a shop in the Vachla Odha area of Godhra town. The seizure follows intelligence about Ahmedhussain Yusuf Mohan, a paint shop owner, allegedly keeping illegal firearms at his residence. SOG officers, assisted by personnel from Godhra B Division police, raided his home and recovered an imported double-barrel rifle, four air guns, four rifle telescopes, and four cartons of air gun pellets.During interrogation, Mohan admitted to buying two double-barrel rifles from Rais Hussain Mitha, a resident of Bhilodiya Plot, Godhra. He revealed that one of the rifles was kept at his shop. A subsequent search of the shop uncovered one imported double-barrel shotgun, two air guns, two cases of air gun pellets, eleven spent shotgun cartridges, four live cartridges, along with gun covers and Mohan’s mobile phone. None of the firearms were licensed. Mohan told police that he collected firearms out of personal interest.Investigations revealed that the two shotguns—one from the UK and the other from Czechoslovakia — had been stolen from farmer Arif Ghanchi’s house on Daruniya-Samli Road near Godhra, while one rifle belonged to Ghanchi’s cousin, Anas Bhatuk. The theft had been reported to Godhra B Division police on Feb 3, 2025. Police are currently searching for Mitha, who has been named as an accused in the case.
