Kavach Rail Safety System: A good news has come for the safety of railway passengers. Indian Railways is going to start a armor railway safety system soon to protect all trains. In this regard, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav made a detailed review of the ‘Kavach’ automated train safety (ATP) system and investigated significant upgradation and successful tests between Sawai Madhopur and Indergarh stations of Rajasthan under West Central Railway Zone. The testing of the armor demonstrated the ability of the system to prevent accidents in seven different emergency scenarios, strengthening its role as a game-changer in rail safety.
During the test investigation, Ashwini Vaishnav, praising the armor, described it as a “future of railway safety” and highlighted the plan to install the system on 10,000 engines and 9,000 km railway track in the first phase. He said that the target is to implement it across the country by December 2030.
Known Rail Safety System Characteristics
Speed stop: During its test, the armor automatically stopped the train at a distance of 50 meters from the driver without any input from the driver.
Speed restrictions: During running at a speed of 130 kmph, the armor reduced speed in caution areas to 120 km per hour and restored it at 130 kmph after exiting.
