Jaipur: After registering a resounding win over second seed Aditya Singh Negi of Uttarakhand, Rajasthan’s Vayam Lamba lost to Telangana’s Krishav Pupala in a three-game battle in the pre-quarterfinals of the All India Sub-Junior (U-15 and U-17) Ranking Badminton tournament at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday.Lamba gave a brilliant performance on Tuesday morning but fatigue was clearly visible on him in the second match and despite fighting hard, he was out of the competition.
On the other hand, Rajasthan’s Kandarp Sharma and Manan Sharma made it to the quarterfinals by winning in two categories.In the U-15 boys singles, Vayam Lamba edged past Aditya Singh Negi 21-16, 19-21, 21-16, and in the next round, Krishav defeated him 14-21, 21-16, 21-16.In the U-17 mixed doubles, Kandarp Sharma and Sharayu Ranjane of Maharashtra thumped Ishwar Sai and Raksha M of Karnataka 21-13, 21-14, and in the U-17 boys doubles, Kandarp and Garvit Barwar upset the fourth-seeded Tamil Nadu pair of Shahid Ibrahim Peer Ahamed Buhari and Adhav Surya RJ 21-18, 23-21.In the U-15 mixed doubles, top seeds Manan Sharma-Inayat Gulati ousted Atharv Tyagi and Gia Sharma of Delhi 21-13, 21-7.In the U-15 boys doubles, fourth-seeded Manan Sharma and Sai Sohan Kota of Andhra Pradesh outclassed Faisal Iqbal and Ashdulla of Bihar 21-13, 21-12 to advance to the quarterfinals.In another U-15 mixed doubles match, fourth-seeded Satvik Agarwal and Lakshit Bhardwaj dismissed Chithas and Trisha 21-10, 21-16 to advance to the quarterfinals.In the U-15 boys singles, Satvik Agarwal trounced Pratham Raut of Maharashtra 21-13, 21-16.In the U-15 girls singles, Anvi Rathod accounted for Kyra Rena of Maharashtra 21-10, 21-11.In the U-17 girls singles, Anvi Rathod downed Nehal Sisodiya of Rajasthan 21-11, 22-20.In the U-15 boys doubles, Anand Maderna and Y Shekhawat got the better of Kashinath C and Omkar RK of Kerala 21-17, 21-18.Earlier, the nine-day long competition was formally inaugurated by sports secretary and chairman of the Rajasthan State Sports Council, Dr Neeraj K Pawan. The special guest was former Olympian badminton player Chetan Anand. Organizing secretary KK Sharma, Rajasthan Badminton Association vice-president Manoj Dasot, joint secretary Zakir Hussain, chief referee of the tournament Rahul Deshmukh and coach Yadavendra Singh were also present on the occasion. Chandrakant Sharma compered the programme.
