Agartala: Tripura has marked a remarkable achievement in grassroots governance, with its panchayats excelling in the national Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0. The state’s performance underscores its growing leadership in strengthening local self-governance and delivering efficient administration at the village level.Tripura’s panchayat minister Kishore Barman announced that Jugal Kishore Nagar Village Committee in Sepahijala district secured the top rank nationwide with a score of 88.44, surpassing nearly 2.5 lakh gram panchayats across India.“This success is a testament to Tripura’s strong dedication to effective Panchayat governance and development,” said Barman, adding that South Nalchar gram panchayat, also in Sepahijala, stood third with 88.14, while Chesrimai gram panchayat followed closely in fourth place with 87.85.For the financial year 2023-24, all 1,176 gram panchayats in Tripura demonstrated exemplary efficiency and transparency. The state achieved 100% data submission and verification across levels, setting a benchmark for decentralized governance unmatched elsewhere in the country.This accomplishment highlights Tripura’s commitment to empowering Panchayats as engines of rural development and participatory democracy.
