Ahmedabad: Resident doctors in the orthopaedics department at MK Shah Medical College in Ahmedabad wrote to the National Medical Commission (NMC), alleging procedural lapses and bias in the inquiry into a recent ragging complaint. The residents filed a written complaint accusing professor Teerth Patel of ragging and other serious misconduct. After the college constituted an investigation committee and held a meeting, the complainants said the panel’s conduct raised doubts about impartiality. In their letter, the doctors alleged the committee treated them “as if they are offenders” and used aggressive, threatening language during questioning, creating fear and discouraging open testimony. They also claimed the committee appeared unaware that Patel was previously suspended for a period following an earlier complaint by Dr Harsh Chauhan, which they said should be considered while assessing the matter. The residents said they requested permission to be accompanied by colleagues or guardians during hearings to avoid appearing alone, but the committee denied the request, citing regulations and protocol. The representation urged the NMC to ensure the inquiry followed proper procedure and remained impartial. The college and committee did not publicly respond to the allegations.
