AMC destroys 1,126kg of unhealthy food in Jan

Ahmedabad: The health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) issued notices to 523 units and destroyed 1,126kg of unhealthy food and 1,318 litres of inedible liquid food in Jan. The civic body slapped administrative charges amounting to Rs 5.73 lakh on defaulting units. The corporation sealed four units — Das Khaman in Nikol, Savai Bhoj Maharaj in Usmanpura, Shailesh’s Panipuri unit, and Afzal Ahmedbhai Zaveri’s food unit in Juhapura — during the period.

In Jan, 1,319 samples, including water used in panipuri, were collected. Among these, 291 samples were found to contain harmful food-grade colours and unhealthy elements. All these panipuri units were closed by the respective zone’s estate and health departments.
