HC dismisses PIL against Kallakurichi bus terminus

Chennai: Madras high court on Monday binned a PIL seeking to restrain the construction of a new bus terminus at Kallakurichi. The PIL alleged that the proposed site, in which the project worth 46.3 crore is to be constructed, was agricultural land. The first bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan passed the order while dismissing a PIL moved by R Kumaresan. The state submitted that the terminus is proposed to be constructed on private land donated by an individual, which does not contain any wetland or agricultural land. However, the petitioner alleged that the individual purchased a huge chunk of private land and donated a small part of it for the bus terminus, so that the entire area could be developed commercially. The bench ordered the district collector to produce original documents of the land in question. After perusing the records, the bench permitted the govt to proceed with the project.TNN
