Keonjhar: Around 7 to 8 robbers looted jewellery worth Rs 11 lakh and Rs 6.8 lakh in cash from the house of Sangram Keshari Nayak, a businessman and BJD leader in Bayapandadhara village in Keonjhar district on Sunday night.The incident took place when Sangram and his brother shut the shop adjacent to their house and were going inside the house. The robbers entered the house on the pretext that one of them was injured in an accident and required water to drink. After they entered the house, the owner got suspicious and tried to stop them but the robbers threatened them at gun point and fired in the air. They also beat up the children and women of the house, took away everyone’s mobile phone and locked them in a room before executing the loot. “Except for one of them, all others wore masks. They mostly spoke in Hindi while one spoke in Odia. We did not protest out of fear,” said Sangram.After the robbery, they shut the main gate and threw the mobile phones in the open and fled around 10.45 pm. “It took us around 20 to 30 minutes to get out of the room and find the mobile phones. Police arrived immediately. Robbers had also looted the hard disk of the CCTV camera,” Sangram added. IIC, Sadar police station, Amit Kumar Bhuyan said it is not exactly known how many persons came and from where they came from. “Efforts are on to arrest them,” he added.Around 7:30 pm on Saturday, the gang broke into the house of the owner of Ghana Medical Center in Khireitangiri village under Turumunga police station, and looted Rs 70,000 in cash and gold ornaments.
