Jobs across the UK could be at risk as a major car dealership looks set to introduce further “restructuring” measures.

American dealership giant Group 1 Automotive has hinted that further job losses in the UK could take place.

The dealership group, which owns 254 showrooms across the United States and the UK, said it would take “additional actions in 2026”.

While the company recently posted record profits, Group 1 Automotive could take steps to “optimise” UK operations, according to Car Dealer Magazine.

Nationwide restructuring plans in the UK include “further workforce realignment and strategic closings of certain facilities”.

The Houston-based company closed two showrooms last year, namely BMW and Mini showrooms in Stansted and Hindhead.

It also confirmed that it would be “phasing out” its Jaguar Land Rover franchises over the next two years in a bid to “focus on the right areas for growth”.

The retailer is expected to “sell or relinquish” all of its JLR sites, with the CEO saying it was “not a reflection on the brand itself”.

The announcement was made at the end of October when Jaguar Land Rover was recovering from its cyber attack, which impacted its car production for months.

At the time, Group 1 Automotive UK CEO Mark Raban said: “We also continue to work with other OEM partners to evaluate our portfolio.

“In this regard, we have today announced our intention to close Toyota Burton and Group 1 Assured Billericay.

“The transition with JLR will be phased over the next two years. In the meantime, each store will continue to trade and operate as normal.”

The company saw total revenues increase to £16.7billion in 2025, with a 13.2 per cent rise year-on-year.

Despite this, full-year net income from continuing operations fell from around £360million to just £255.7million in 2024.

It recently announced the closure of a Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram dealership in the US, while acquiring a Lexus location in Florida, and two Mercedes-Benz stores.
