5 women church members killed in Kohima road accident

Dimapur: Five women members of Chumoukedima Ao Baptist church travelling in a private bus were killed in a road mishap at 10th Mile Road under the Chiephobozou police station in Kohima district Saturday night.The incident happened after the bus, carrying 32 members of the church following a programme in Mokokchung, overturned.

Thee bodies were retrieved from the accident site and handed over to their families after completing all necessary legal formalities, the release said. The remaining passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were shifted to the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research, Dimapur.Police said preliminary probe at the scene ruled out rash and drunken driving as causes for the accident. The bus likely developed a mechanical snag, resulting in accident.Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio on Sunday announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased. He also announced financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each to those seriously injured.
