Belagavi: Kishor Savla, the prime accused and alleged mastermind behind the sensational robbery of 2 containers reportedly carrying Rs 400 crore in demonetised currency notes at Chorla Ghat in Khanapur taluk of Belagavi district, surrendered before the Nashik Rural police in Maharashtra on Saturday evening. His surrender is expected to significantly advance the investigation and help unravel the entire network behind the crime.The robbery, which allegedly took place on the night of Oct 22 at Chorla Ghat, came to light following the kidnapping of Sandeep Patil on the Ghoti–Nashik Road. Patil later lodged a complaint in the third week of Dec, providing detailed information, including phone recordings.
In his complaint, Patil categorically mentioned the name of Gujarat-based builder Kishor Savla, stating that the entire money belonged to him. Since then, the Maharashtra police, by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT), searched for builder Kishor Savla. Although police teams earlier failed to trace Savla, his voluntary surrender gave a new direction to the probe.Maharashtra police have so far arrested four suspects in the case, and all of them are still in custody. Nashik police sought the cooperation of Belagavi police by writing a letter on Jan 6. Following the letter, Belagavi SP K Ramarajan sent a team to Nashik to collect information related to the case.However, according to Belagavi police, Maharashtra police is yet to provide details of the case to them. Moreover, they did not allow Karnataka police to question the arrested suspect so far. Now, in addition, the Karnataka police are also required to check the new angle of Kishor Salva’s surrender.Belagavi SP K Ramarajan categorically stated that there is a dearth of evidence to start the investigation, even before an official complaint is lodged.
