School awareness event on vulture conservation held in Biswanath dist

Guwahati: The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) drew strong engagement after holding a school awareness programme on vulture conservation at St Xavier’s School in Biswanath district.The session, part of BNHS’s wider school education initiative, was conducted recently by BNHS biologist Gitartha Borah. It brought together 91 students and five teachers, focusing on why endangered vultures must be protected and how they help sustain ecological balance.

BNHS expanded this outreach across Assam, aiming to build long-term understanding of wildlife conservation among students and educators. Over the last year, the organisation connected with 160 schools in the state.During the session, students learned about the threats faced by vultures, especially the harmful impact of certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
