According to BDA officials, the site earmarked for the park was recently cleared of encroachments following complaints from local residents about the lack of open spaces in the area. The authority has now initiated the groundwork to convert the vacant land into a green public space.“A large number of residents in Kailash Vihar demanded a park for years. After clearing the encroachments, we decided to develop the land as a full-fledged park with all essential facilities,” Chief Horticulturist, BDA, Sukant Swain said.He added that the design would focus on greenery, walkability, and safety, particularly for senior citizens and children. “We floated a tender for the project. Once finalised, the work on development of the park will commence,” Swain said. The official said the park would include paved jogging and walking tracks, benches and shaded sitting areas, lawns for informal recreation, and play equipment for children. “Our objective is to create inclusive public spaces that improve the quality of life in residential areas,” he said.BDA is also developing another park at Hatiasuni, a nearby locality, as part of its broader plan to enhance green and recreational infrastructure in northern Bhubaneswar. “Hatiasuni and Kailash Vihar are both growing residential pockets. These parks will serve as important community spaces,” officials said.Local residents have welcomed the move. “Kailash Vihar is crowded and children hardly have any safe place to play. A proper park will be a big relief for families like ours,” said Ramesh Sahu, a resident of the area.Another resident, Sunita Mohanty, said senior citizens would benefit greatly. “Many elderly people go for morning walks on the roads, which is risky. A park with a jogging track will be much safer and healthier,” she said.
