Ahmedabad: After the reduction in qualifying percentile, fresh registration was conducted for local quota seats in postgraduate medical admissions. According to sources from the admission committee, 549 seats are currently available, for which 754 candidates applied with the reduced percentile.The available seats include 163 non-reported seats 14 where admissions were cancelled after allotment 118 newly approved seats and 254 non-converted seats. The admission schedule for allotment of these seats is expected to be announced in the coming days.Before allotting postgraduate medical seats, colleges will now be required to verify the exact number of seats approved for them. This directive was issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) following instances of duplication during admissions under the All India Quota (AIQ).During the third round of the admission process, the NMC approved additional seats for several medical colleges under the AIQ. Admission committee sources said that newly approved seats are usually added to the existing seat matrix during the admission process. However, due to continuous approval of new seats and reopening of admission portals across different states, discrepancies arose regarding the actual number of seats filled earlier.In some cases, colleges reportedly allotted admissions exceeding their sanctioned intake, and in a few instances, more than one student was allotted the same seat. In view of these irregularities, the NMC instructed all medical colleges to maintain clear and accurate records of their sanctioned seats and the number of admissions already granted before proceeding with further allotments.
