With TOL Forecast boxLudhiana: If you thought Sunday was cold, you haven’t seen the “foggiest” of it yet. With daytime temperatures hitting a new low and cloud cover acting like a giant wet blanket over the city, the city is officially entering its peak “sweater weather” period.Residents woke to a biting chill on Sunday as daytime temperatures took a sharp dip, prompting the meteorological department to issue a three-day “yellow alert” for dense fog across the district. Heavy cloud cover dominated the skyline from the early hours, offering only fleeting glimpses of the sun and significantly suppressing the afternoon warmth. While the day felt considerably colder, the nighttime temperature offered a slight reprieve from the usual winter lows, creating a narrow gap between the day’s high and low. Minimum (night) temperature was recorded at 7.6°C, which is 1.5°C above normal for this time of year and a 2.2°C increase from Saturday. Maximum (day) temperature witnessed a notable fall from the previous day’s levels due to consistent cloud cover and a persistent cold breeze.Visibility and Fog WarningShallow fog hampered early morning commuters, with visibility dropping to 500 m at 8.30am. By midday, conditions shifted to a haze, improving visibility to 2,000 m. The “yellow alert” issued by the weather bureau serves as a formal notice for local departments to “be updated” and prepared for inclement conditions. Dense fog is expected to blanket the region over the next 72 hours.Residents Adjust to the ChillThe sudden shift caught many by surprise after a string of pleasant afternoons. Ravjot Singh, a local businessman, noted that the mild breeze necessitated a return to heavier winter wear. “The weather was pleasant for the last few days, but Sunday was different,” Ravjot Singh said. “I had to switch from a light sweatshirt back to a sweater and spent most of the day indoors to stay warm.”
