CCTV captures moment ‘gunman’ bursts into Subway and threatens staff before fleeing

CCTV footage has captured the moment a man, appearing to be armed with a gun, threatened staff at a takeaway before fleeing the scene.

Greater Manchester Police are currently investigating the armed robbery of a Subway restaurant in Walkden, Salford, which took place on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred at the sandwich chain’s branch in Ellesmere Retail Park.

According to police, the suspect arrived in a small black vehicle sometime between 8.25pm and 8.35pm on January 31.

After entering the premises, he brandished the suspected firearm before escaping with a small quantity of cash.

Officers were called to the retail park shortly after 8.30pm following reports of the raid.

The suspect has been described as approximately six feet in height.

He was also said to be dressed entirely in dark clothing, including a hooded jacket, trousers and trainers.

During the robbery, the suspect concealed his identity by wearing a mask.

Greater Manchester Police issued a CCTV image of the gunman during the raid as part of their efforts to identify him.

The force released the material on Sunday in hopes that members of the public might recognise the man captured on camera inside the takeaway.

Detectives from Swinton CID are leading the inquiry and have described the incident as both “worrying” and “concerning” for the local community.

Detective Inspector Louise Haslam, of Swinton CID, said: “While this will be worrying and concerning, this type of incident is extremely rare in Greater Manchester.”

She confirmed that additional officers would be deployed to the area over the coming days to reassure residents while the investigation continues.

“We will have extra officers in the area today and the next couple of days as we continue our investigation and provide a reassuring presence.

DI Haslam urged anyone who was present near the retail park at the time to get in touch with police.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage to please contact us,” she added.
