Thane: A dispute over a car rental deposit turned fatal in Shilphata on Thursday afternoon, with a man stabbed to death and another abducted. The Shil-Daighar police arrested three accused within two hours of the incident and rescued the abducted victim, who was allegedly moments away from being killed.The incident occurred around 3 pm on Jan 29 near Regal Hotel, Shilphata. The complainant, Mohammad Faisal Matiullah Sheikh, earlier rented a four-wheeler from the prime accused, Saif Ali Khan, on a daily basis. Although the vehicle was returned, the deposit amount was allegedly not refunded, leading to a dispute.

Police said Khan called Sheikh to the spot under the pretext of returning the deposit. Sheikh arrived with his friends Abu Talib, Sachin, and Aman Sheikh.

Khan, accompanied by Shoaib Khan and Arif Khan, all residents of Manpada in Dombivli, allegedly got into an argument that escalated into a violent scuffle. During the altercation, Aman Sheikh was stabbed in the chest and collapsed, while Abu Talib sustained injuries while trying to intervene.After the attack, the accused allegedly abducted the complainant, threatened him, and robbed him of Rs 5,000 before fleeing. Based on a complaint, Shil-Daighar police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and kidnapping.Under the guidance of senior officers, multiple teams were formed and, using technical inputs and informants, the accused were traced to Desai village within two hours. Police arrested all three and rescued the abducted victim. The murder weapon and the vehicle used in the crime were also recovered. Further investigation is underway.
