KGMU to build women apex centre, new dental block

Lucknow: Critically ill pregnant women and newborn babies at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) will soon get advanced life-saving treatment within the campus, reducing the need for referrals and delays in emergency care.To achieve this, KGMU will build a women apex centre near Queen Mary’s hospital and also demolish the old dental building to construct a new multi-storey dental block. Proposals for both projects were sent to the state govt and are likely to get approval soon.

Vice chancellor Prof Sonia Nityanand said that currently, many critically ill pregnant women are shifted to the trauma centre for ventilator support. Once the new centre becomes operational, advanced facilities will be available at Queen Mary’s itself, ensuring faster and safer treatment.Meanwhile, the old dental building at KGMU was declared unsafe after inspection by IIT experts. All departments have already been shifted to the new dental complex. The damaged structure will now be demolished and replaced by a modern building, where four dental departments will function. The total estimated cost of both projects is around Rs400 crore. Prof Nityanand said these developments will significantly improve healthcare infrastructure and help KGMU provide better and more modern treatment to patients.
