Chennai: Doctors who conducted postmortem on the body of a migrant worker’s wife, recovered from the Perungudi dumpyard, confirmed to police that there were no signs of sexual assault and that she died due to head injuries caused by a blunt weapon.The deceased woman, Munithakumari, 21, a native of Bihar was murdered along with her husband Gaurav Kumar, 24, and their two-year-old son Birmani Kumar. The triple murder case came to light after Gaurav Kumar’s body was found wrapped in a sack and dumped near a two-wheeler showroom on Indira Nagar First Avenue in Adyar on Jan 26. The child’s body was later recovered from the Buckingham Canal near the ICT campus.
Police arrested three suspects in connection with the case — Sathyendra, 33, Lalit Prasad, 45, and Vikas Kumar, 24, all natives of Bihar. They were produced before the Saidapet court and remanded in judicial custody until Feb 12. On Friday, Munithakumari’s body was recovered from Perungudi dumpyard after an intensive three-day search involving 100 police personnel and 50 conservancy workers. Earthmovers were deployed to clear large heaps of waste based on information provided by the suspects. Police said the body, found inside a sack, was in an advanced stage of decomposition as it remained in the dumping yard for nearly five days.The body was sent to Government Royapettah Hospital (GRH) for postmortem. A team of doctors, including assistant professors Dr Siva Kumar and Dr Raghuram, conducted the autopsy on Saturday. Police said doctors confirmed that the woman died due to head injuries caused by a blunt weapon. The next phase of the investigation would focus on reconstructing the sequence of events leading to the triple murder and establishing the specific role of each arrested accused. Further legal sections will be added based on the final post-mortem report and forensic findings, they said.
