Jalandhar: The income-tax department’s search at former Congress minister Sunder Sham Arora’s residence in Hoshiarpur, which started Wednesday morning, ended Friday midnight. Speaking to media on Saturday, Arora said the raid was targeted at his son, Prateek Arora, and they had provided all the details to the department and answered its queries.After the search started, Punjab Congress leaders had criticised the action. “It’s a blatant misuse of govt machinery. Central agencies are being weaponised to intimidate and silence the Opposition. Such actions strike at the very roots of democracy and must be condemned unequivocally,” posted Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi had posted on X.Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa accused the BJP of using central agencies for political vendetta and intimidation. “Leaders who align with the BJP receive a ‘clean chit’, while those who speak the truth or leave face raids. This is the current politics of the BJP,” he said.Expressing solidarity with Arora, Warring had posted: “Misuse of central agencies can’t break the resolve of Punjab Congress. The entire Congress is with Arora.”
