Versova police registered FIR against BMC contractor for RMC plant in protected mangroves forest

Mumbai: Versova police registered an FIR against a BMC-appointed contractor under the Environment Protection Act for putting up a Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant within a protected mangrove forest.The FIR was registered based on a complaint lodged by Hemant Worlikar, an officer of the revenue department of the state. Worlikar said in his statement to the police that a complaint was first received about the issue on the Aaple Sarkar portal on August 5, 2025, and subsequently on the Mangroves Protection app on December 2, 2025.Subsequently, an inspection was carried out at the spot by forest officials and revenue officials. During the visit, it was found that a contractor appointed by the BMC set up a sewerage treatment plant and a Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant. The RMC plant was set up within 50 metres of the protected mangrove forest.Thereafter, an FIR was registered against the contractor for violation of rules and for not taking permission from the forest department.
