Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara has released a recruitment notification for 108 Junior Staff Nurse posts for 2026. The engagement will be on an academic arrangement basis. Eligible candidates can apply through the official online portal within the given dates. The posts are open to candidates who hold a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or a B.Sc. Nursing degree from a recognized institution. Registration with the Jammu and Kashmir Nursing Council is mandatory.The recruitment process will be aligned with government regulations, and a written test might be held if necessary. Applicants who wish to apply must fill out the online application and submit the required documents prior to the closing date.

Vacancy details and eligibility criteria

A total of 108 posts have been announced under different reservation categories, including Open Merit, SC, ST, OBC, RBA, ALC/IB and EWS. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Science and completed either GNM or B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institute. Registration with the J&K Nursing Council is compulsory at the time of application.The upper age limit is 63 years as per the notification. No prior work experience has been made mandatory for applying to these posts. Freshers who meet the educational and registration requirements are eligible.

Application process and important dates

The online application process began on January 28, 2026. Candidates must submit their forms before February 19, 2026, by 3 pm. After completing the online process, applicants are also required to submit a hard copy of the filled application form along with relevant documents to the Office of the Registrar Academics, GMC Handwara. The last date for submission of hard copies is February 26, 2026, by 4 pm.Direct link to apply here. An application fee of Rs 700 must be paid through a J&K Bank challan. Other modes of payment are not accepted.

Selection process and instructions

Selection will be carried out as per the applicable government order. If a large number of applications are received, the college may conduct a written examination based on multiple-choice questions. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of eligibility and performance in the selection process.Candidates are advised to read the official notification carefully before applying. Incomplete applications or forms submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
