Chennai: Isro‘s special projects director P Veeramuthvel on Friday said that the Chandrayaan 4 mission would be a major technological leap, as it will bring back samples from the moon.“We landed on the moon in Chandrayaan 3. The next mission aims to further understand the moon with in situ sample collection. We want to bring back samples to earth with indigenous technology,” Veeramuthuvel, who was also the project director of Chandrayaan 3, said while addressing the 12th convocation of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University.
“Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS), India’s proposed space station, will allow students to conduct experiments and discover exciting new sciences. “A microgravity environment plays a major role in new discoveries. Space science leads to new findings in medicine, material science and metallurgy. By 2040, Indian astronauts will land on the moon,” he said. Veeramuthuvel said the space sector reforms will allow private industries and academia to take part in space activities. “Students can build spacecraft, launch their own satellite, and can become entrepreneurs by launching space start-ups. “After launching the satellite, they can use the data for various applications,” he further said. Governor R N Ravi, who presided over the convocation, handed the medals and certificates to top rankers.
