Bhilwara: Half a dozen vehicles collided on National Highway 48 in Bhilwara district on Friday morning at 8 o’clock due to dense fog, leaving three people dead on the spot and five seriously injured, police said.The crash occurred near Bhilwara city at the Kothari river bridge, where several vehicles hit each other one after another in low visibility. The collision was so severe that several vehicles were badly damaged, a car got crushed between them, and many people travelling in them got trapped inside.Mandal police station personnel reached the spot after receiving information and admitted the injured to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara. The bodies of the deceased were kept in the mortuary. After identification of two deceased, post-mortem was conducted and bodies were handed over to family members, while identification of one 40-year-old unknown deceased is underway.Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh said that 3 have died in the accident while five are injured. Police registered a case and started investigation.People present at the spot and Mandal police station personnel rescued those trapped in vehicles after hard efforts. A 4 kilometre-long traffic jam formed on the national highway, leading to chaos at the spot and traffic coming to a standstill for a long time. The jam was such that even the 108 ambulance faced considerable difficulty in reaching the accident site, while local people helped transport the injured to hospital using private vehicles.Mandal DySP Rahul Joshi reached the accident site with a police team and started relief and rescue work. With the help of a crane and other means, work to remove damaged vehicles was started and traffic was restored.The deceased were identified as 45-year-old Poluram son of Karansingh Rawat, resident of Bhinay in Ajmer district, 33-year-old Sunil son of Khemraj from Kalyan police station area of Mumbai, and one unknown person. The injured were identified as 32-year-old Taksir resident of Bareilly, 35-year-old Zaheer, Khatif, 38-year-old Neelam Gurjar resident of Chittorgarh, and 70-year-old Gangadevi.
