SIT rejects KCR’s plea, fixes Feb 1 for quizzing him at his Hyd home

Hyderabad: A day after issuing him a notice in the phone tapping case, the SIT Friday rejected former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao’s request to be questioned at his Erravalli farmhouse.Senior police officers said KCR would be questioned at his Nandi Nagar house in Hyderabad at 3 pm on Feb 1. The decision was conveyed through a fresh notice issued in response to KCR’s letter seeking deferment and relaxation of conditions. On Friday night, a police team visited KCR’s Nandi Nagar residence to serve the notice. However, with no one but a watchman present and the house unlit, the officials pasted the notice on the wall before leaving. In reply to an earlier notice served on Jan 29, KCR said he was unable to appear on Friday and requested SIT to question him at his Erravalli farmhouse in Siddipet district after investigators asked him to indicate a preferred location within Hyderabad. After deliberations, the SIT, led by Hyderabad police commissioner VC Sajjanar, decided that the questioning would be done at KCR’s Hyderabad residence. “The examination involves reference to many electronic and physical records which are sensitive in nature. It would be administratively difficult to transport the same to Erravalli village,” SIT has said in the latest notice, asking KCR to make himself available at his residence in Hyderabad on Feb 1 at 3 pm.The notice also said the request for examination at a location other than the residence mentioned in official records could not be accepted, as the venue is determined based on the address reflected in official documents. Officials said the address considered was the one mentioned in KCR’s affidavit.Sources said the former CM has been staying at his Erravalli farmhouse since Thursday.SIT has been probing the phone tapping case since 2024 and is believed to be in the final stages of the investigation, ahead of filing a supplementary chargesheet. In earlier press conferences, KCR had maintained he only received intelligence reports and that the govt had no role in how the information was generated.
