Govt allocates Rs 663cr to construct panchayat buildings in 2,666 villages

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt on Friday sanctioned Rs 663 crore to construct independent panchayat buildings-cum-talati residences in 2,666 villages. CM Bhupendra Patel laid the e-foundation stones of these buildings at an event in Bhadran village of Anand district.Speaking at the event, the CM said that the initiative to construct independent buildings for panchayats-cum-talati residences reflected the state’s commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure. “The govt has decided to ensure that every gram panchayat has its own building,” he said.“This will enable villagers to access govt services easily at the local level,” the CM said, adding that the facilities would improve administrative efficiency and service delivery in rural areas.Patel also launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Gramotthan Yojana’ statewide. Under the first phase of the scheme, 114 villages that function as taluka headquarters but do not have municipalities will be covered.Under the scheme, villages will be provided with urban-equivalent facilities, including improved road infrastructure, water supply, sanitation systems, solar street lighting, e-gram services, and community halls. He added that the state govt aimed to extend the scheme in the future to gram panchayats with a population of more than 10,000.
