Jaisalmer: A 28-year-old man from Jaisalmer, arrested on charges of espionage, is set to appear in court here Saturday, Rajasthan Police CID Intelligence said on Friday. Investigators alleged the accused, Jhabra Ram, 28, was lured into a honey trap by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, and passed confidential and strategic information across the border in exchange for money. Officials said Ram, a resident of village Nedan under Sankra police station in Pokhran tehsil, was unemployed and preparing for a teacher recruitment examination. They alleged Ram began sharing sensitive information related to the Indian Army with ISI handlers in 2024 and also sent videos and photographs linked to Operation Sindoor. Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Prafulla Kumar said the arrest followed sustained surveillance of suspected espionage activity in Rajasthan. During monitoring, Ram’s social media contacts and communications were flagged as suspicious, with investigators alleging he remained in constant touch with ISI-linked accounts. At the Central Interrogation Centre in Jaipur, Ram was jointly questioned by multiple agencies and his phone was forensically examined. Police said he provided an OTP for a SIM registered in his name, enabling WhatsApp access for handlers. Inspector General Vishnu Kant identified a woman handler, Mushkan, and another contact saved as “Vikas,” and said small sums were deposited repeatedly into Ram’s bank accounts through India-based intermediaries.
