Bomb threat: IndiGo Kuwait-Delhi flight makes emergency landing in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: An IndiGo flight operating from Kuwait to Delhi made an emergency landing at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad on Friday morning after a written bomb threat was detected onboard. The incident prompted the pilot to activate emergency security protocols. Some 180 passengers, including 6 crew members, were aboard the flight. The aircraft, IndiGo flight 6E1232, was diverted as a precaution after a handwritten chit claiming a bomb was aboard the flight was found near a passenger seat during the flight, as learnt from sources. The pilot immediately alerted air traffic control (ATC), following which the aircraft landed at SVPI Airport around 6.40am.

After landing, the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay where bomb disposal squads, fire brigade teams and medical staff were already deployed.All passengers were safely deboarded and moved to a secure holding area, while the aircraft was subjected to thorough security checks. No injuries or panic were reported.“Soon after the landing, teams from the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), airport security and local police rushed to the spot. Officials confirmed that a comprehensive anti-sabotage and security check of the aircraft was underway. Passenger baggage and cargo were also thoroughly screened as part of the laid-down procedures,” a source told TOI.Handwriting samples of passengers were also collected and taken for examination, sources said.Sources confirmed that the flight later departed for the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi around 4.20pm.In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said, “IndiGo flight 6E1232 operating from Kuwait to Delhi on Jan 30, 2026 was diverted to Ahmedabad after a security threat was noticed onboard. The relevant authorities were immediately informed, and all the mandated protocols were followed. The aircraft was cleared after all necessary checks and the flight departed shortly.”Airport sources said flight operations at Ahmedabad airport continued uninterrupted. Security agencies launched an investigation to trace the source and motive behind the threat.
