Cops recover woman’s body from Perungudi dumpyard

Chennai: The body of the Bihari woman Minukumari, 21, one of the victims of the Adyar triple murder, was recovered from Perungudi dumpyard on Friday. For three days, 100 police personnel and 50 sanitation workers had sifted through the garbage before finding the badly decomposed body around 11am; it was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem. Minukumari, her husband Gaurav Kumar, 24, and two-year-old son Birmani Kumar had been murdered by fellow migrants from Bihar with whom they had been staying at Taramani. On Jan 26, Gaurav’s body was found in a bloody sack that had been dumped on the road near a two-wheeler showroom at Indira Nagar First Avenue. CCTV camera footage showed two men on a two-wheeler had dumped the body and fled. Investigations led police to Taramani and to Satyendra, 30, who was Gaurav’s friend.

That’s when police learned that Satyendra and some others had been drinking with Gaurav; and that they had killed him, his wife and child.Police are investigating if the woman had been sexually assaulted and said they were waiting for the postmortem report. Satyendra, Lalit Yadav, 40, and Vikas Kumar, 24, were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The child’s body was found in the Buckingham Canal near the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) campus at Taramani a couple of days ago. Police officials said the next phase of the investigation would focus on reconstructing the sequence of events leading to the murders and determining the individual roles of each accused. The family of three had arrived in Chennai from Bihar on Jan 21 in search of a livelihood. They had come to Taramani on Jan 24 and police suspect the murder took place the same night, possibly triggered by an attempt by the drunk men to molest the woman.
