75L bribe: After HC nudge, ACB to book 3 more BMC officials

Mumbai: Three days after Bombay HC’s nudge, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday told the court that it will add the names of a BMC ward officer, an assistant engineer and a junior engineer as co-accused in a Rs 75-lakh bribery case. Two touts were caught in 2024 accepting Rs 75 lakh on behalf of a senior executive engineer, Mandar Tari. As per the complainant, developer Goldie Sud, he built a four-storey building in Andheri and got a notice from K-East ward in Jan 2024 declaring two floors illegal. In Feb, BMC partially razed the building. Sud got reprieve from HC twice, which set aside demolition orders. Sud said in July, ward officer Govind Shelke, along with other officials, including Tari, inspected the building. The next day, when he went to meet the designated officer in the presence of Shelke and assistant junior engineer Digambar Sonawane, they allegedly sought a bribe of Rs 2 crore. Sud approached ACB, which nabbed two touts and arrested Tari later. In his complaint, he also named ward officer Manish Walunj, Sonawane and Shelke, but they were not booked. Sud, through lawyer Mubin Solkar, filed a petition, alleging that he had audio clips showing their involvement.
