Kanimozhi reaffirms DMK–Congress unity, signals DMK-led front expansion ahead of polls

CHENNAI: DMK deputy general secretary Kanimozhi on Friday sought to end speculation over strains within the DMK–Congress alliance, asserting that the partnership remains “strong and stable,” even as the party explores widening its Secular Progressive Front ahead of the assembly polls.Fielding questions on reports of friction between cadres of both parties and her meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi, she underlined continuity rather than disruption.

“There is no friction between the allies. The alliance held for years and continues without any issues,” she said, signalling the DMK’s intent to project unity at a time when opposition blocs are recalibrating their strategies.Kanimozhi made it clear that the front is poised for expansion. “New parties are likely to join, but our leader will decide who they are,” she said, a remark that gains significance amid growing buzz that Premalatha Vijayakanth-headed DMDK could be the next entrant to the DMK camp, giving the alliance a wider electoral catchment.Responding to a survey that placed the DMK-led alliance at a 45% vote share, she downplayed the numbers, insisting that the “visible ground reality” is more decisive. Her comment reinforces the party’s confidence that its organisational momentum and on-ground feedback are aligning in its favour as the poll cycle gathers pace.
