Hyderabad: Two elderly siblings were found dead inside a rented flat at Kalikabar in Chaderghat on Thursday after neighbours reported a foul smell emanating from the premises to police. At 2.30pm on Thursday, a patrolling team of Mir Chowk police station received an alert about a foul smell from a flat in Sardarji Building at Kalikabar, located in the lane opposite Darbar Maisamma temple. Blue Colts patrolling team constable Suresh and home guard Md Dastagir Ali Khan rushed to the spot. “There was no reponse to repeated knocks on the door, which was latched from inside,” constable Suresh stated in his complaint.
After the Clues Team reached the location, police breached the door. “Neighbours told us that 85-year-old Sarwar Begum and her younger brother, Shakeel, 80, were living in the flat. We found the decomposed body of Sarwar Begum in a chair. She was clad in a yellow-and-orange floral nightdress. The decomposed body of Shakeel was found on the floor of the washroom,” Mir Chowk inspector (detective) P Papaiah said.Preliminary inquiry established that the siblings were unmarried and they lived in the rented flat for nearly 30 years. Shakeel used to work in a Secunderabad-based private company over two decades ago. “Sarwar Begum was unwell and needed her brother’s help to move in the house. A neighbour said that she used to remain in the chair most of the time. We suspect that Shakeel might have either accidentally slipped in the bathroom and died of a head injury. Begum might have died due to lack of food and medical assistance. We suspect that they might have died about four to five days ago,” the DI said.Using the mobile phone of Shakeel found in the house, police contacted family members and relatives of the siblings. A suo motu case was registered under Section 194 of the BNSS. The bodies were shifted for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
