Kanpur: In a first, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Trophy will arrive in Kanpur on Jan 31. The trophy will be received at KDMA School, Barra, as part of its official tour programme. According to chairman of the media committee of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), Dr Sanjay Kapoor, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to take the trophy to schools where members of the Indian squad studied during their childhood. He said Indian T20 team spinner Kuldeep Yadav is an alumnus of KDMA School and began his cricketing journey there under the guidance of school coaches. The trophy will be welcomed by the school band and students in the presence of city cricketers, including former players. Kuldeep Yadav’s parents have also been invited for the occasion. Students and guests will get an opportunity to take selfies with the trophy, Dr Kapoor said. “This is a matter of pride and honour for institutions that have nurtured cricketers who are now representing the country at the World Cup,” Dr Kapoor said while speaking to media persons.
