Indore: A Goa police team investigating multiple housebreaking thefts was attacked by a mob in the Bori police station area of Alirajpur district on Thursday evening. The incident occurred while the team was returning with a detained suspect — believed to be the main accused — from Bahadiya village.Goa police were in Madhya Pradesh to probe two major thefts. A theft involving Rs 6 lakh in cash and gold ornaments under Porvorim police station and a high-value heist involving gold worth approximately Rs 35 lakh in a house under Mapusa police station.Using intelligence and digital tracking, police identified some suspects as residents of Bahadiya village under Alirajpur’s Bori police station. With the assistance of the local police staff, Goa police team arrested one accused from his residence on Thursday.As the Goa police team was driving back to the station in a private vehicle, they were allegedly intercepted by a group of locals and relatives of the accused. The mob allegedly pelted stones and attacked the vehicle in an attempt to free the suspect, police said.“The windshield of the Goa police’s car was shattered in the attack. One police personnel sustained a minor leg injury, though no one required hospitalisation,” SP Raghuvansh Kumar Singh told TOI, adding that the situation was brought under control because a Bori police station vehicle was trailing immediately behind the Goa team. Seeing the local police reinforcements, the attackers fled the spot.“The suspect was safely brought to the Bori police station. Goa police are now processing the legal formalities to take him into custody on a transit remand for further interrogation in Goa,” he said.Meanwhile, a formal complaint has been lodged by an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Bori police station, who was present during the search operation. “We have registered a case against the attackers and a search operation has been launched to identify and arrest those involved in the assault on police team,” Singh added.
