Bengaluru: A scooter-borne miscreant offered a lift to an elderly woman and robbed her of gold ornaments at a eucalyptus grove, near Devanahalli, Monday afternoon.The victim, Nanjamma, 74, is a resident of Mallenahalli village. Her family is engaged in farming and owns agricultural land in Jonnahalli village.
According to the complaint filed by her grandson, Harish N, the family built a temple on their agricultural land. Nanjamma went to the temple around 11am Monday but returned home only around 5pm. An unidentified man arrived on a scooter while she was praying at the temple, stayed on the premises for nearly 30 minutes, plucked flowers, offered them to her, and assisted her during the puja.Around 12.15pm, after locking the temple, Nanjamma began walking home. The man approached her and offered to drop her home. As Nanjamma felt faint, she followed his instructions and got on to the scooter. However, instead of taking her home, the man stopped the scooter at a secluded eucalyptus grove and threatened her with a knife, demanding that she hand over the gold ornaments she was wearing. Despite screaming for help, no one came to her rescue. Fearing for her life, Nanjamma handed over her gold mangalya chain and a couple of other ornaments, together weighing over 50 grams. The accused fled with them.Disoriented, Nanjamma sought directions and managed to reach home in the evening. Her grandson filed a complaint with Bagalur police. CCTV footage shows the miscreant riding a Honda Dio scooter and wearing a jacket, shoes, gloves, and a helmet. Police have registered a case under BNS Section 309 (robbery).
