Panaji: Panchayat minister Mauvin Godinho said govt will give more powers to zilla panchayat (ZP) members to enable them to implement projects and better utilise funds. Although Godinho made the announcement while addressing the newly elected members attending the foundation training programme organised by the Goa Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (Gipard) on Thursday, he did not elaborate.The goal of a ZP member, Godinho said, is not only to serve people who elect him, but also his critics. “Your commitment is vital to boosting work at the grassroots level,” he said. He urged ZP members to come with out-of-the-box ideas while planning projects for constituencies.The training gave freshers tips on rural development, and outlined their role and duties in accordance with the Goa Panchayati Raj Act, 1994.Some members complained that even one month after their election, they were yet to start work due to administrative hurdles.
