Kanpur: A `Shiksha-Mitra’ was shot dead inside her home in Gokulpur village under Asoha police station area in Unnao district, late on Tuesday night. Police sent the body for post-mortem examination and registered an FIR for murder against unknown persons, based on the husband’s complaint.Police said the bullet was fired from the front into the right side of her chest. Her family members woke up after hearing the sound of gunfire and discovered the incident. SP Jayprakash Singh, CO Tej Bahadur Singh and SO Phool Singh reached the crime scene the same night with the forensic team and conducted an investigation.The deceased was identified as Shrikanti (39), wife of Omkar Rawat, a resident of Gokulpur village under the Asoha police station area. She had been working as a `Shiksha-Mitra’ in the Basic Govt School for more than a decade. She lived at home with her husband and daughter, Riya (13). Her elder son, Raunak, studied while staying with his maternal grandfather in Korari Kala village under the Achalganj police station area.Daughter Riya said her mother woke up at 1 am to answer nature’s call and was shot at that time. She said, “When we reached after hearing the sound of gunfire, her blood-soaked body was lying on the cot.”After receiving information about the murder, brother-in-law Rajendra, who lived in the neighbourhood, reached the spot and informed the police.Police said the family had no dispute with anyone and suspected someone from within the family may have committed the murder. The deceased’s husband did farming.Station officer Phool Singh said, “Based on the husband’s complaint, an FIR was registered against unknown persons and the body was sent for postmortem examination. The investigation is ongoing.”
